Description

Station Beach is appox 1.6km (1mi) long, slightly curved running North to South. The middle of the beach faces west towards Pittwater. To the East is Palm Beach and the Pacific Ocean, to the North is Barrenjoey Head and Broken Bay.
It is a Sandy Beach bay beach, protected from swell, but still affected by Westerly winds. The sand is white to golden in colour.
Station beach is surrounded by park, bushland and sandunes towards the Northern end and a golf course at the Southern end.

Location

Station Beach is appox 41Km North of Sydney. It is accessible by car, public transport (Bus), ferry or seaplane from Rose Bay.
The middle of the beach faces west towards Pittwater. To the East is Palm Beach and the Pacific Ocean, to the North is Barrenjoey Head and Broken Bay.

Highlights

Station Beach features heavily in the Australian Soap drama 'Home and Away' so certain areas of the beach will be familiar to fans of the show.
The beach is protected from swell so makes a great family swimming spot. A visit to the café near the wharf is worthwhile, especially if a seaplane is about to land or take off.
Windsports are popular on Station beach, including kite surfing, sailing and windsurfing. It is also a good place to hire a boat with great fishing available off shore in Pittwater.
To the North of Station beach is the path up to Barrenjoey lighthouse, a tiring but rewarding walk.

The main picnic area is Governor Phillip Park, which connects the East and Western beaches on Pittwater Peninsula

This wharf is used by Fantasea ferry service and Palm Beach Seaplanes. There is a café nearby with a good view.
6m wide Sand Ramp at the end of Beach Road. There is an asphalt ramp further South at Sandy beach off Iluka Rd.
Station Beach is protected from swell and is usually calm, making for safe swimming.
Fishing off the rocks at the North of Station beach is fairly good, but for better catches hire a boat and fish off shore in Pittwater.
The walk up to Barrenjoey Lighthouse is well worth the effort, with great views of the surrounding coastline. Distance is around 2kms return, starting from the Northern end of Station Beach (Pittwater side of Palm Beach). Walk is fairly steep. Take water.
Boats and Kayaks can be hired from Barrenjoey Boat Hire for use in Pittwater.
There was a scuba shop running out of Governor Phillip Park called Atlantis Divers, but it has since closed.There is good diving on the reefs around Barrenjoey Head, as well as the wreck of the Valiant nearby in 27m of water. Abyss Divers and others run occasional charters out to the wreck and reef.
Barrenjoey Lighthouse was completed in 1881 and has been automatic since 1932
Fantasea runs a ferry service from Station Beach wharf. There are regular services to Ettalong on the Central Coast and Mackeral Beach in Pittwater. They also occasionally run scenic cruises from Palm beach along the nearby coast, including seasonal whale watching trips.
Palm Beach Seaplanes is an independent airline that runs flights from the Station Beach wharf. There are scenic flights around the Broken Bay area as well as trips too and from Rose Bay in Sydney Harbour.
