Brighton is a popular Port Phillip Bay beach around 7kms south of Melbourne CBD. The beach, including Middle Brighton Beach to the north, consists of several small coves that end at Green Point, followed by a stretch of straight sand that continues into Hampton Beach to the south.
All up there is around a kilometre of sandy beach.
Brighton is a bay beach, protected from ocean swell, and north of Green Point has some protection from southerly winds. There is a large pier and marina at Middle Brighton, sea baths with a café restaurant and just south of Middle Brighton are the famous Brighton Beach Huts. Sunbathing, Swimming, Sightseeing, fishing and Kitesurfing are popular activities on this beach.
