Bondi is a great place to sunbake. The sand is soft and clean, the water inviting and the nearby surrounds offer many eating and shopping opportunities.
The water is usually clean, except after heavy rain. Bondi is an Ocean surf beach.
Conditions at this beach can be hazardous for inexperienced swimmers, particularly at the South Corner which can be affected by rips and disappearing sandbanks.
There are multiple surf breaks along the beach, with bigger, more consistent waves usually found towards the Southern Corner. Surf conditions here are usually considered fair to good.
Sculpture by the Sea
Sculpture by the Sea is an interesting artistic event involving outdoor sculptures placed along the Bondi Coastal walk from South Bondi to Tamarama. Many of the sculptures make use of the surrounding coastal environment. Sculpture by the Sea runs over a fortnight each November. Click here

Bondi Surfbreaks
Bondi has a series of beach breaks along its 600m length, with both consistent surf and consistent crowds, many of whom are not locals and may or may not have seen the ocean before.
The beach faces pretty much south, so works in most S swells, E swells or pretty much anything that is not from the north. Offshore winds are N.
The beach can't hold very big swells, but when its 5ft+ the best waves are likely to be at the south end of the beach. Rides are usually short, under 50m, maybe up to 150m on a good day when the sandbanks are all working. Best tide is mid to high.
